Op woensdag 1 november 2017 (de dag voor J-Fall) organiseert NLJUG een pre-conference met diepgaande expert level workshops. Je kunt tijdens deze pre-conference kiezen uit twee verschillende deep dive sessies, die maar liefst 4 uur duren. Deze workshops worden verzorgd door thought leaders: Arun Gupta (Principal Open Source Technologist bij AWS), Brian Hammons (Senior Solutions Architect bij AWS) en Bert Ertman (Fellow bij Luminis). Aan het volgen van trainingen en cursussen van deze sprekers hangt normaal gesproken een aardig prijskaartje. NLJUG wil haar leden graag kennis bijbrengen voor een betaalbare prijs. Deelname aan één van deze workshops kost tijdens de J-Fall pre-conference slechts 95 euro (incl. BTW). Bovendien mag je na afloop ook nog eens aanschuiven bij het exclusieve J-Fall sprekersdiner.

Overnachten

Geen zin om na afloop van de workshop en het sprekersdiner naar huis te gaan? Voor 100 euro extra kun je blijven overnachten in het Van der Valk Hotel te Veenendaal, zodat je de volgende dag als eerste bij J-Fall 2017 kunt zijn.

Serverless Deep Dive door Bert Erman

 

Are you still using Docker in production? Get over it! Serverless is the NEW future of the Cloud. But since the Cloud is still someone else’s computer, that needs to be managed too. And if it is sitting idle, you probably have to pay for it whether you like it or not. No server can be more easily managed than no server. Therefore: meet Serverless, a new paradigm that truly approaches the Pay-as-You-Go philosophy once promised by the Cloud. This session explores Serverless, its impact on existing architectures, and assesses it’s usability for Mobile Back-ends as a Service (MBaaS), Functions-as-a-Service (FaaS) and also for Microservices based architectures hosted in the cloud. Live coding and demos will be based on Amazon Web Services and Apache OpenWhisk offerings.

There is no set limit to the amount of people that can join this workshop, it’s set up as a deep dive session and no laptop is needed for the visitors.

 

Kubernetes on AWS door Arun Gupta & Brian Hammons

 

Kubernetes is a popular cloud-native open-source orchestration platform for container management, scaling and automated deployment. It includes a rich set of features such as service discovery, multi-tenancy, stateful containers, resource usage monitoring, and rolling updates. Some of the questions we will go over are: How do we deploy using infrastructure technologies like CloudFormation and Terraform? How can CLI clients such as kops, kubeadm, juju-charms and minikube be used to interact with Kubernetes? What does a clean CI/CD pipeline look like using AWS? How do we integrate with tools such as Maven?

In this code-driven workshop you will learn how to package, deploy, scale, and monitor your Java application using Kubernetes and the AWS cloud.
