NLJUG – Nederlandse Java User Group NLJUG – de Nederlandse Java User Group – is opgericht in 2003. De NLJUG verenigt software ontwikkelaars, architecten, ICT managers, studenten, new media developers en haar businesspartners met algemene interesse in alle aspecten van Java Technology.
J-Summer was NLJUG’s End of Summer Unconference, focused on the question: How can we work together to make our Java community stronger?
We brought together community leaders from Arnhem JUG, Brabant JUG, JUG Noord, Utrecht JUG, and Apeldoorn JUG, along with the NLJUG board and the Java Magazine editorial team.
The attendants introduces topics around finding hosts and sponsors, alternatives to meetup platforms, and attracting new contributors. The exchange was rich and collaborative, resulting in several concrete actions:
- J-Fall JUG Wayfinder: JUGs will get a visible place in the event flow, with banners and a community wayfinder showing the distances from Ede to the different JUGs.
- Room hosts at J-Fall: Jug Leaders and editorial board can Register interest to be J-Fall room host and they can share the invitation with their active community contributers.
- NLJUG.org JUG Hub: NLJUG.org/jugs will become a central reference hub for Dutch JUGs, featuring a community story, a regional event calendar, and links to the regional JUGs. Java Magazine will also link to the hub.
- Enabling new contributors and content: The Speaker Academy will experiment with a joint format with the editorial committee, creating a writing spin-off that helps turn speakers and their talks into writers and Java Magazine articles.
- Connecting JUGs: We will create a Signal group for all JUG leads to exchange ideas, events, and promising speakers. JUG leads will also be invited to NLJUG Business Partner meetings, with the next one taking place on September 21.
The overarching outcome was a shared commitment to connect more closely, share what works, and make it easier for Java developers across the Netherlands to find and participate in their local community. To top it off, we celebrated our connection with a BBQ and a boat trip through Haarlem, hosted by Martin Smelt from the NLJUG board and SandS Media.
All of us will continue our efforts to maintain and strengthen our vibrant, well-connected Dutch Java community!
